Swiffer Sweeper vs. Mop & Bucket

My family and I moved at the end of September and after unpacking what seems like dozens of boxes, I am finally able to start posting again.

I have always wanted to try the Swiffer Sweeper because of my disdain for the mop and bucket method. The mop and bucket method are probably the cheapest form of getting the floor clean, but it also seems the most time consuming to me. All you need to clean the floor with the mop and bucket method is hot water, your choice of cleaning product, and a mop. You really don't even have to invest in a bucket since you can just use the kitchen sink for your hot sudsy water. Here's why I don't like the mop and bucket method though:

  • fill sink with water so hot that it can turn your hand red

  • pour in cleaning product

  • get mop wet with hot sudsy water, wring out by hand

  • clean a section of the floor

  • rinse mop out in hot sudsy water, wring out by hand

  • clean a section of the floor
Okay, you get the picture, it's a lot of mopping and rinsing, and not my ideal way of spending my time.

Finally, the Swiffer Sweeper seems attainable to me since I don't want to spend much out of pocket for the investment in the Sweeper. The Sweeper retails for $11.99, but is on sale this week at CVS for $7.99. In addition to it being on sale, it is always one of the Extra Bucks deals this week. When you purchase $10 of participating Swiffer products, receive $5 Extra Bucks rewards. The Sweeper Starter kit is on sale for $7.99, the Dry Cloths (32ct) and Wet Cloths (24ct) are on sale for $6.99. This is a great time to invest in the products if you want to make the switch to the Sweeper.

I sit down to get my Sweeper out of the package, assemble it, and put it to work. It is actually easier than I thought since you just throw the wet cloth on the floor and mop away. The cleaning product has a strong clean scent and after only a few minutes the entire house smells like I've been cleaning for hours when it literally only takes a few minutes to mop the floor. I'm happy with my Sweeper and glad that I made the switch.

I've decided to retire my mop and bucket and replace it with the Swiffer Sweeper, and in true fashion of my thrifty ways, I'll stock up on the wet cloths while they're on sale.
